Thallium (Tl)

Thallium (Tl) is a highly toxic element, which like lead and mercury, accumulates in many body tissues. Hair levels reflect chronic accumulation, and toxic reactions can have a long latency period before clinical symptoms appear.

Common sources of Tl are:

  1. foods – marine organisms concentrate Tl up to 700 times
  2. tobacco
  3. contaminated water
  4. electronic components
  5. fly ash
  6. cement dust
  7. some fertilizers

Symptoms of Tl exposure include:

  1. sleep disturbances
  2. cardiac stress
  3. optical disturbances
  4. skin reactions, alopecia
  5. liver stress
  6. GI dysfunction
  7. kidney dysfunction
